Terraced housing rows
Long, narrow rows of former miners' houses line many streets, and at poster scale they turn into a dense, finely textured pattern.

Quaregnon Map Poster & Print
Quaregnon sits in the Borinage, the old coal basin just west of Mons in Hainaut. On a map it reads as a dense network of streets lined with rows of workers' houses, laid out in the loose, grown pattern of mining settlements rather than a planned grid. Built-up areas run almost continuously into the neighbouring communes, so the town edge is hard to see from above.
The town has a place in Belgian political history. In 1894 the Belgian Workers' Party adopted its programme here, still known as the Charter of Quaregnon. On paper, the traces of industry remain in the curve of old rail lines, open ground where pits once stood, and the flat land of the Haine valley to the north.
A Quaregnon map poster makes the tightly packed streets the subject. The long terraces become fine, closely spaced lines, and main roads cut through them at angles, showing how the town grew along routes between collieries. It is a busy drawing, the opposite of an empty rural plan, and it works well at larger print sizes.

Borinage continuity
Quaregnon runs into neighbouring towns with almost no open ground between them, so the map reads as part of one continuous former mining district.
Haine valley edge
To the north the land flattens toward the Haine valley, where the lines of rail and canal-era infrastructure run straighter than the old town streets.

Pourquoi Quaregnon
Une carte qui a du sens
For families with roots in the Borinage, a street plan of Quaregnon is a way to keep a working-class, mining heritage on the wall. The birthplace of the 1894 Charter also means something to readers of Belgian social history.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, and pick from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital files include six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF.
