Río Tercero lies in Córdoba province, Argentina, on the river of the same name, also called the Ctalamochita. The city follows the classic Argentine grid: square blocks laid out with great regularity over nearly flat ground. From above, the only real break in that geometry is the river, which winds through the city and divides it into neighbourhoods on either bank, connected by bridges.
The city grew as an industrial centre, with chemical plants and a well-known military factory that shaped its development through the twentieth century. Upstream, the river feeds the Embalse de Río Tercero reservoir, one of the largest lakes in the province. Around the city, farmland stretches across the plains in a patchwork of large rectangular fields.
