The village
The island's only village sits near its centre, where the lanes meet and the two churches stand, the one small cluster on the whole map.

La carte
Ruhnu Map Poster & Print
Ruhnu lies near the centre of the Gulf of Riga, well away from the Estonian and Latvian coasts, and is one of the more remote inhabited islands in the Baltic. It is small and low, its outline gently rounded, with sandy beaches and dunes along the shore and pine forest covering much of the interior.
For centuries the island was home to a Swedish-speaking community, which left during the Second World War, and it was later resettled. Its small wooden church, built in the seventeenth century, is often described as the oldest surviving wooden building in Estonia, and it stands beside a later stone church in the island's one village.
A lighthouse stands on the island's highest ground, and a handful of tracks and lanes cross the forest to the harbour and the beaches. A Ruhnu map poster is a study in restraint: a compact island shape, a few quiet lines of road and path, and the wide, open water of the gulf all around it.

Forest tracks
Narrow roads and paths run through the pine forest toward the harbour, the beaches and the lighthouse, a sparse and delicate pattern of lines.
Dune coast
Sandy shores and low dunes trace the island's rounded outline, a soft, continuous edge against the open water of the Gulf of Riga.

Pourquoi Ruhnu
Une carte qui a du sens
Ruhnu belongs to people who have made the long crossing there, whether by ferry or small plane, and to those with family ties to its Swedish past. A map of the island is small, calm and specific, well suited to a quiet corner.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with the date of your crossing, and choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The $9 files print cleanly at every size, from A3 to 24×36″.
