The canal
A canal runs straight across the area, a strong horizontal line on the poster that recalls the transport of coal from the Borinage.

Saint-Ghislain Map Poster & Print
Saint-Ghislain lies in Hainaut, west of Mons, in the lowlands of the Haine valley. On a map the most striking features are linear: a canal crossing the area, railway lines and a large rail yard, and roads running alongside. The town's streets spread around these routes, with residential neighbourhoods filling the spaces between water, rail and road.
The area was once part of the Borinage coal basin, and the landscape still carries the traces of mining and industry. Former industrial sites, spoil heaps and worker housing appear across the wider municipality, along with several villages that were joined into the modern town. The result is a fragmented pattern of settlements rather than a single compact centre.
The town takes its name from Saint Ghislain, who founded an abbey here in the seventh century. A Saint-Ghislain map poster shows the product of that long history: a place shaped first by religious foundation, then by coal and transport, with canals and railways cutting straight lines across a gently sloping valley.

Railway yard
Parallel tracks spread wide near the town, creating a dense bundle of lines that stands out clearly against the residential streets.
Scattered villages
Several former villages form separate clusters across the municipality, giving the map a patchwork of settlements rather than one centre.
