Gulf of Gonâve shore
The coastline forms the whole western edge of the poster. Its long, clean line against open water gives the town its orientation and its port.

La carte
Saint-Marc Map Poster & Print
Saint-Marc lies on the west coast of Haiti in the Artibonite department, facing the Gulf of Gonâve. It fills a fairly narrow strip of flat ground between the shore and the hills behind it, so on a map the town runs along the coast rather than inland. The waterfront and its port form the western edge of the plan.
Streets in the centre follow a roughly regular pattern, a common trace of colonial-era planning in Haitian towns, and they grow more irregular as they climb the slopes. The coastal highway between Port-au-Prince and the north runs through the town and gives it its main axis. Past the edge of town the ground turns rough and roads become sparse.
Saint-Marc is one of the larger towns in the Artibonite and has long served as a port for the region. A Saint-Marc map poster keeps the composition simple and true to that setting: the curve of the coast, a compact grid of streets, the highway along the shore, and hills close behind on the land side.

Central street grid
In the centre the streets fall into a fairly regular pattern of blocks. This tidy texture stands out between the waterfront and the looser roads on the slopes.
Hills behind town
Hills rise close to the coast and limit how far the town can spread inland. The map shows a narrow built-up band, with a few sparse roads climbing away from it.
