The harbour
Seaham Harbour's piers and docks project from the coast in crisp, geometric lines, the clearest human-made shape on the map and the reason the town exists.

La carte
Seaham Map Poster & Print
Seaham stretches along the Durham coast between Sunderland and Hartlepool, set on limestone cliffs above a shoreline of small bays. From above, the town is bounded sharply by the sea on its eastern side, with a compact harbour cut into the coast and residential streets spreading inland in orderly terraces and later estates. The railway runs parallel to the shore, just behind the town.
The harbour was built from 1828 by the Marquess of Londonderry to ship coal from his collieries, and mining defined Seaham until the last pits closed in the 1990s. Today its beaches are known for sea glass, fragments washed smooth from a Victorian bottle works, and the steel soldier statue known as Tommy has become a landmark on the clifftop.
A Seaham map poster makes the coastline the main event. The straight edge of the cliffs, the angular harbour walls and the regular terraces of the old mining town form a strong, simple composition. Inland, the pattern loosens into cul-de-sacs and green space where collieries once stood, a quiet record of how the town has changed.

Clifftop edge
The town meets the sea along a firm, almost straight line of cliffs, broken by small bays where sea glass collects after winter storms.
Terraced streets
Rows of parallel terraces near the centre recall the colliery housing built in the nineteenth century, printed as fine, evenly spaced strokes.
