Seligenstadt Map Poster & Print
Seligenstadt lies on the south bank of the Main in Hesse, east of Frankfurt, where the river forms the border with Bavaria. The map has a clear centre of gravity. A compact medieval old town of curving lanes sits right on the water, and newer districts spread in a looser pattern to the south and east across the flat valley floor.
The town's history goes back to Einhard, Charlemagne's adviser and biographer. He founded an abbey here in the ninth century, and its basilica still stands in the centre, with the abbey buildings and gardens next to it. On the riverfront are the remains of an imperial palace from the Staufer period, and a ferry still crosses the Main.
A Seligenstadt map poster brings out the contrast between the dense, irregular old town and the wide sweep of the river. The abbey grounds show up as a calm open shape at the heart of the tight lanes. The result is a detailed poster that is easy to read.

Einhard's abbey
The basilica and abbey complex, with its enclosed gardens, forms a large open block within the medieval street pattern and anchors the centre.
Medieval lanes
Short, curving streets around the market square are lined with half-timbered houses. On the map they create a dense, irregular core.

Pourquoi Seligenstadt
Une carte qui a du sens
The poster suits people who live in the old town, couples who married in the basilica, or anyone who knows the Main valley well. It frames the town as it has been for centuries: river, abbey and a knot of lanes.
Change the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps to mark a wedding date, and pick from five styles, including Paper and Noir. Printed posters on matte paper are available with an optional wooden frame, and the digital files cost $9.
