The curve of the bay
A long sandy shoreline sweeps along the city's seaward side, giving the print a clean coastal arc and a generous expanse of open water.

La carte
Shibushi Map Poster & Print
Shibushi faces the Pacific on the eastern side of the Ōsumi Peninsula in Kagoshima prefecture, at the head of the wide bay that carries its name. The coastline here is a broad, smooth arc of sandy beach and pine forest, and on a map it gives the city a strong, simple outline: land on one side, open water curving away on the other.
The port is the city's defining feature. It handles grain and feed for the livestock farms of southern Kyushu, and ferries sail from here to Osaka. Just offshore sits the national petroleum stockpiling base, a block of storage tanks on reclaimed land whose geometric shape stands out sharply against the soft line of the beach.
A little way out in the bay lies Biroujima, a small island covered in fan palms and protected for its vegetation. Behind the coast, the town climbs into hills and farmland cut by river valleys. A Shibushi map poster brings together water, harbour and countryside, a composition with more open space than most city prints.

Port and stockpile base
Quays, breakwaters and the rectangular storage tanks of the offshore oil base introduce hard, geometric shapes that contrast with the natural line of the beach.
Biroujima island
The small island in the bay adds a single isolated shape to the water, a detail that gives the composition a focal point beyond the shore.

Pourquoi Shibushi
Une carte qui a du sens
A map of Shibushi has a natural balance, with the town and its hills on one side and the sea on the other. It suits anyone who grew up on the Ōsumi Peninsula, anyone who arrived by ferry, or simply someone drawn to coastal maps.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a date or a family name. The Blueprint and Noir styles make the most of the open water, while Paper and Sand feel softer. Files come in six print sizes, or order a framed matte poster.
