Winding hill roads
The roads follow the shape of the terrain, looping around ridges and descending into valleys, so the city appears as a tangle of curves instead of a grid.

La carte
Shillong Map Poster & Print
Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya, on the Shillong Plateau in the Khasi Hills at around 1,500 metres. The terrain is uneven, and on a map the city shows it clearly: roads bend and double back to follow the ridges, neighbourhoods fill the valleys, and there are very few straight lines anywhere.
The British developed the town as a hill station and administrative centre, and it was capital of the undivided Assam province for many years. Its cool climate, pine forests and rolling hills earned it the nickname Scotland of the East. Ward's Lake is a small landscaped lake near the centre. The much larger Umiam Lake lies to the north on the road to Guwahati.
A Shillong map poster is a study in curves. Streets run around the ridges in a dense, irregular mesh, with Police Bazaar at the busy centre and the slopes of Shillong Peak rising to the south. The organic pattern makes the map very different from the grids of cities on the plains.

Ward's Lake
A small landscaped lake with gardens near the heart of the city, one of the few flat, calm shapes in an otherwise hilly street pattern.
Shillong Peak
The highest point in the area rises south of the city. Its slopes limit growth in that direction and give the southern edge of the map a natural boundary.

Pourquoi Shillong
Une carte qui a du sens
Shillong is a hometown for many people across Northeast India, a favourite hill station and, for some, a school or college town. Its curving streets make a map that is expressive without any extra decoration.
You can personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, adding a locality or year. Five styles are available: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir works beautifully with the dense, curving street pattern of the hills.
