Han River
The river winds through the centre of the map and sets the direction of the whole town. Streets and embankments follow its bends closely.

Shiquan Map Poster & Print
Shiquan sits in the upper valley of the Han River in southern Shaanxi, part of the Ankang area. The terrain dictates everything. Mountains close in on both sides, leaving a narrow strip of flatter ground along the water, and the town stretches along it rather than spreading outward. From above, streets follow the river's curves, and the built-up area thins quickly as the slopes rise.
The Han River is one of the Yangtze's major tributaries, and this upper stretch runs between the Qinling range to the north and the Daba Mountains to the south. That setting gives the region a greener, more southern character than the loess plateau of northern Shaanxi. The river corridor has long been the main route through the area.
A Shiquan map poster reads almost like a cross-section of a valley: water in the middle, a thin band of streets along its banks and empty mountain ground beyond. The result is a long, elegant composition shaped more by geography than by planning, and it looks especially striking in the darker styles.

Valley strip
Built-up areas are confined to a narrow band of level ground. This creates a long, slender footprint that looks very different from towns on open plains.
Mountain edges
Steep slopes rise on either side of the valley. On the poster they appear as open space framing the town and emphasise how tightly it is held by the land.
