Atlantic shoreline
A long, clean coastline runs the full height of the map. It separates the empty ocean from the detail of the land, a simple, strong edge for the print.

Tanji Map Poster & Print
Tanji sits on the Atlantic coast of the Gambia, south of the resort strip around Kololi. The shoreline defines the map: a long, nearly straight edge of sand facing the ocean, with the town's streets gathered just inland. The coastal road runs north to south behind the beach, and small creeks and wetlands break up the ground near the sea.
Tanji is best known for its fish landing site, one of the largest on the Gambian coast. Pirogues come up onto the beach there, and much of the catch is smoked on site. Just to the north, the Tanji River Bird Reserve protects lagoons, dunes, woodland and the offshore Bijol Islands, where seabirds and migrating waders gather.
A Tanji map poster weighs the sharp line of the coast against the looser pattern of the town and the wetlands around it. The ocean side stays open and calm while the land side fills with lanes, tracks and water, which gives the composition a strong, clear division.

Fish landing beach
The beach where boats land their catch is the centre of the town's working life. The streets of Tanji gather close behind it.
Bird reserve wetlands
North of town, lagoons and creeks of the bird reserve wind through the dunes. They add soft, irregular water shapes to the coastal composition.

Pourquoi Tanji
Une carte qui a du sens
Tanji means something to people who have lived by this coast, and to visitors who remember the boats coming in at the end of the day. A map of the shoreline is a restrained reminder of the place, without relying on a photograph.
Set your own title and subtitle, perhaps a name and the date of a visit, and adjust the coordinates line. Blueprint and Classic black & white show the coastline especially clearly. Order a printed poster or download six print sizes as HD files for $9.
