Usmanka river
The river winds past the town through a green floodplain, and its curves offer a gentle counterpoint to the straighter streets of the centre.

Usman’ Map Poster & Print
Usman’ lies in Lipetsk Oblast, in the forest-steppe of central Russia, on the Usmanka river. It was founded in the seventeenth century as a fortress on the southern defensive line that protected Russian lands from raids from the steppe. Today it is a quiet district town, and its map shows a regular street plan in the centre, with lower-density housing spreading along roads toward the edges.
The Usmanka and its floodplain form a natural boundary for the town, with meadows and trees following the river. Beyond, the land is mostly farmland, broken by the edge of the Usman forest, a large area of pine and oak woodland that stretches toward Voronezh and is partly protected as a nature reserve. The forest takes its name from the same river as the town.
On a Usman’ map poster, the town reads as an ordered centre framed by softer natural shapes: the winding river, the dark mass of woodland and the patchwork of fields, with roads leading away across the forest-steppe. It is a simple, grounded composition, fitting for a place with a long history and a modest present.

Regular centre
The central streets follow a regular plan of straight blocks, a layout seen in many Russian provincial towns and one that prints with great clarity.
Forest edge
The Usman forest appears as a large area without streets, a wide, quiet space on the map that sets the natural limits of the town.
