La carte
Vicência Map Poster & Print
Vicência lies in the Zona da Mata of northern Pernambuco, the band of low hills between the coast and the drier interior that was once covered by Atlantic forest and has been planted with sugarcane for centuries. From above, the town appears as a compact cluster of streets in a valley, with roads climbing out over the surrounding hills.
The street pattern is typical of small towns in the region: a central area around a main square and church, with streets following the lie of the land rather than a strict grid. Beyond the edge of town, the map opens into large fields and scattered rural settlements, crossed by streams and by the roads linking Vicência to nearby municipalities.
A Vicência map poster shows a town closely tied to its landscape. The small, dense centre, the roads winding over the hills and the open agricultural land around it form a simple but characterful composition. In black and white, the fine lines of rural roads and watercourses come forward and give the map real texture.
