Highland basin
The town sits on a level plateau floor surrounded by higher ground. On the map this creates a natural frame, with the fields in the middle and the steeper hill country pressing in from the edges.

Yunnanyi Map Poster & Print
Yunnanyi lies in a highland basin in Xiangyun County in western Yunnan. On a map it appears as a compact town on flat, cultivated ground, with a patchwork of fields reaching to the forested hills on every side. Roads come into the basin along the valleys and meet at the town. The street pattern is simple and fairly dense, as you would expect from a long-settled farming centre.
Local tradition holds that this town is where the name Yunnan comes from. An ancient administrative seat here gave its name to the region, and the province took it over. During the Second World War an airfield near the town supported the air supply routes over the mountains. Today the setting is quieter and still largely agricultural.
A Yunnanyi map poster suits people who like understated places with long stories. The street network is small, so the basin, the field boundaries and the ring of hills become the real composition. In black and white, the contrast between the flat valley floor and the folded terrain around it comes through clearly.

Compact old core
The streets are packed into a small area rather than spread thinly. That gives the centre a dense, textured look, clearly different from the open agricultural land around it.
Valley approaches
The roads reach the town by following the lowest routes through the hills. They show how travel in this part of Yunnan has always been shaped by the terrain.
