Zvenyhorodka Map Poster & Print
Zvenyhorodka lies in Cherkasy region, in the gently rolling farmland of central Ukraine. The Hnylyi Tikych river runs through the town, and its winding course sets the direction of the streets on either side. The centre gathers near the water, and quieter residential streets with long garden plots spread outwards before giving way to open fields.
The town is best known for its link to Taras Shevchenko, Ukraine's national poet. He was born in the village of Moryntsi, in the Zvenyhorodka district. For many Ukrainians the name of the town immediately calls up that literary heritage, and the countryside around it is often called Shevchenko's land.
A Zvenyhorodka map poster shows a town that has grown along its river and into the land around it. The river bends, the older streets near the centre and the regular rows of houses on the outskirts each have a distinct texture. Together they make a map that is simple but full of small detail when you look closely.

Garden-plot streets
On the outskirts, long parallel plots run back from the streets, giving the map a fine, combed texture typical of Ukrainian country towns.
Shevchenko's land
The surrounding district is where Taras Shevchenko was born, and the roads leaving town lead into the countryside he wrote about.
