Norwood lies in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, about fifteen miles southwest of Boston. On a map it shows two distinct characters: a traditional town centre along Washington Street with a dense grid of residential blocks, and the broad commercial strip of Route 1 running along the eastern side, lined with car dealerships and large lots.
The town separated from Dedham and was incorporated in 1872. Its most recognisable building is the Memorial Municipal Building, whose tall tower holds a carillon. The commuter rail line to Boston crosses the town with more than one station, and Norwood Memorial Airport occupies a large open area in the east, near the wetlands of the Neponset River.
