Bla is a town in the Ségou region of central Mali, on the wide, open savanna between the Niger and Bani river systems. Its importance comes mainly from its position. Bla sits at a road junction where routes toward Ségou, toward San and the north, and toward Koutiala and the south all meet.
On a map the town reads as a knot of streets tied around that junction. The main roads cross near the centre, and the residential quarters fan out in low, fairly regular blocks. Beyond them the flat land opens out almost without interruption, with only tracks and scattered settlements marking the Sahelian landscape.
