Kanda is a town in Fukuoka Prefecture on the eastern coast of northern Kyushu, facing the Suō-nada sea just south of Kitakyushu. Its map is split between the sea and the land. Straight-edged reclaimed ground and port facilities line the coast, and the older town and farmland occupy the plain behind, with wooded hills rising to the west.
The waterfront is dominated by industry. Kanda is home to a large Nissan car plant, and much of the reclaimed land is taken up by factory sites, quays and roads serving them. Kitakyushu Airport sits on a man-made island just offshore to the north, a strip of land in the open sea.
