Limbach-Oberfrohna is a Saxon town formed in 1950, when Limbach and Oberfrohna were joined into a single municipality. From above, that double origin still shows. Two older street clusters sit a short distance apart, linked by later housing and roads that follow the folds of the land rather than any single plan. The result is a town that reads as a network of centres rather than one core.
The surrounding landscape is the undulating foreland of the Ore Mountains. Small streams cut shallow valleys, and the streets bend to follow them. The area has long been tied to textiles, and Limbach in particular became known for knitwear and hosiery production.
