Mountain Brook is a city in Alabama, just south-east of downtown Birmingham, set among the wooded ridges that rise over the valley. Unlike a grid city, its map is a tangle of curving roads. They follow the hills and the creeks and loop between the ridges, with large residential lots and generous tree cover.
Shades Creek winds through the area, and several smaller streams run down the slopes to join it. The city's commercial life is concentrated in a few small villages, including Mountain Brook Village, Crestline Village and English Village.
