Fürstenfeldbruck grew up where an old salt road crossed the Amper, and the bridge that gave the town the second half of its name still explains its shape. South of the centre lies the former Cistercian monastery of Fürstenfeld, whose large baroque church and rectangular courtyards appear as a compact, orderly block beside the river.
