Hashima Map Poster
Hashima lies in the south of Gifu Prefecture, on the Nōbi Plain between two of central Japan's great rivers, the Kiso to the east and the Nagara to the west. Their broad channels and levees frame the map. The city fills the land between them with a mix of dense neighbourhoods, rice fields and irrigation channels.
This low ground has a long history of flooding, and the wider region is known for wajū, communities once enclosed by protective ring levees. The pattern is gentler today but still visible. Raised embankments line the rivers, roads follow old field lines, and residential blocks are scattered among farm plots rather than packed into a single centre.
A Hashima map poster also shows the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, which crosses the city in a straight elevated line and stops at Gifu-Hashima Station. The area has long been associated with textiles, particularly wool fabrics. On the print, two wide rivers, fine field textures and a single high-speed line come together in a quietly sophisticated composition.
