Lichtenvoorde is a town in the Achterhoek, in the east of Gelderland, and part of the municipality of Oost Gelre. Its old centre is small and rounded, with streets converging on the historic core. Newer residential districts have grown outward around it in every direction, and all of this sits within the patchwork of fields, farmsteads and wooded strips typical of this part of the Netherlands.
The town is known well beyond the region for two events. Every September the flower parade, the Bloemencorso, fills the streets with floats covered in dahlias. Each summer, the fields at the edge of town host the Zwarte Cross, a large festival built around motocross and music that draws huge crowds.
