Swanley sits in north-west Kent, just past the edge of Greater London, and its map is shaped as much by transport as by housing. The M25 passes close by, and its interchange with the M20 just south of the town is one of the most recognisable road shapes in the area. Its wide sweep of slip roads frames the built-up streets like a border.
Inside that frame, residential streets spread out from the town centre and the station, where the lines toward London, Maidstone and the Medway towns split.
