The ferry strait
A narrow channel separates Ajim from the mainland. On the map it reads as a short gap of white between two coasts, with the ferry landing where the town's roads meet.

La mappa
Ajim Map Poster & Print
Ajim sits on the southwestern edge of Djerba, where the island reaches closest to the mainland. From above, the town is a loose cluster of low blocks and courtyard houses spread along a flat shoreline. Toward the water, the grid breaks into quays, a ferry landing and the shallow shapes of the lagoon. Inland, roads fan out across open ground toward the rest of the island.
The ferry crossing is what defines Ajim on a map. A short line of water runs across the strait to the mainland, and the roads converge on the landing like tributaries. Fishing has shaped the harbour for a long time, and the town is known for its sponge divers. Their boats still work the shallow waters of the Gulf of Gabès.
Film fans may know the whitewashed streets from the first Star Wars film. Scenes set in the desert port of Mos Eisley were shot here. An Ajim map poster reduces all of this to a few strong lines: the coastline, the ferry route and the fine texture of alleys. It suits anyone who has crossed onto Djerba by boat.

Shallow southern shore
The coastline here is soft and irregular, with lagoons and flats instead of cliffs. Its thin, hesitant edge contrasts with the denser pattern of streets just behind it.
Courtyard street pattern
Away from the harbour, the town is a mesh of short lanes and enclosed plots typical of Djerba. Printed in fine lines, it produces a delicate, almost textile texture.

Perché Ajim
Una mappa che ha un significato
For many travellers, Ajim is the first or last glimpse of Djerba, the point where the road turns into a ferry deck. A map of it marks that threshold: a harbour, a strait and an island beginning. It suits a holiday remembered, a family link to the south of Tunisia or a love of places defined by water.
You can add a title, such as the town's name or a phrase of your own, along with a date and the coordinates line. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand works especially well for a coast like this one.
