Ararat plain grid
Fields, orchards and irrigation channels divide the flat land around the town into long rectangles. This makes a strong geometric pattern that continues well beyond the built-up area.

La mappa
Ararat Map Poster & Print
The town of Ararat lies in the southern part of the Ararat plain, in the province of the same name. The land here is almost perfectly flat and heavily farmed. From above, the town looks like a rectangle of streets surrounded by a patchwork of fields, orchards and irrigation channels that run to the horizon.
The town takes its name from Mount Ararat, which rises across the border in Turkey and dominates the view from the whole plain. Ararat grew in the Soviet period around industry, including cement production, and a railway line runs past it. The monastery of Khor Virap, one of Armenia's best-known sites, lies in the same province not far away.
An Ararat map poster sets the regular town layout inside the geometry of the agricultural plain. The surroundings are made of straight roads, long field boundaries and canals, with the railway cutting through in a clean line. It is a landscape of flat ground and straight lines. On a wall, it reads as calm and almost architectural.

Railway corridor
A railway line runs along the town in a long straight stroke. Industrial sites grew up beside it and widened that stretch of the map.
Compact town blocks
The town is laid out in regular streets with apartment blocks and low houses. It forms a tidy, clearly bounded shape on the open plain.
