Irrigation canals
Channels drawn from the Tigris run through the farmland in fine parallel lines, dividing the land into long plots that give the map its texture.

La mappa
Balad Map Poster & Print
Balad lies in Salah ad Din Governorate, on the fertile plain near the Tigris River roughly between Baghdad and Samarra. From above, the town is a compact core of streets and courtyard houses set in an unusually green landscape for central Iraq, surrounded by orchards, date palms and fields fed by a network of irrigation canals drawn from the river.
The area has long been known for its fruit, and the map reflects that agricultural base: long, narrow plots running toward the water, small roads following the canals and villages scattered among the groves. Nearby lies a large airbase, known internationally from the years after 2003, whose runways appear as long straight strokes on the plain.
A Balad map poster sets the fine lines of irrigation and field boundaries against the denser weave of the town centre. It is a composition about water and cultivation as much as streets, and the Tigris running across the plain gives the whole map a clear sense of direction and a natural anchor.

Tigris plain
The river and its broad floodplain cross the landscape nearby, adding a wide, winding line that anchors the composition and orients the whole sheet.

Perché Balad
Una mappa che ha un significato
For families from Balad, many now living in Baghdad or abroad, the map is a way to keep the orchards, canals and familiar streets within sight. Its restrained linework suits a living room as much as an office.
Give the poster your own title and subtitle, perhaps a family name and a year, and keep the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, as $9 HD files or a printed matte poster.
