Headwaters of the river
The Medellín River starts in the hills above Caldas. On the poster its thin line enters the grid and heads north, the start of a much longer story.

La mappa
Caldas Map Poster & Print
Caldas is the southernmost municipality of the Aburrá Valley metropolitan area, which is anchored by Medellín. Its setting is steep. Mountains close in on both sides, and the urban area sits in a slim band along the valley floor. From above, the streets form a compact grid that has to bend and stop wherever the slopes begin.
The Medellín River, also called the Aburrá, rises in the highlands just south of here. In Caldas it is still a modest stream, and on the map you can follow it north as it gathers tributaries on its way to the city. The main road south out of the valley climbs through the same corridor, so river and highway run close together.
The town is known for its ceramics industry, which has made tableware here for generations. A Caldas map poster works almost like a cross-section of the valley. It shows a dense centre, green ridges pressing in, and the beginning of the river that gives the whole metropolitan region its shape.

Valley-floor grid
The town centre keeps to a regular block pattern, but its edges are ragged where the terrain rises. The contrast between order and slope defines the frame.
Mountain walls
Steep ridges on both sides leave only scattered roads and settlements. They leave wide, calm margins around the dense urban strip in the middle.

Perché Caldas
Una mappa che ha un significato
Many people from Caldas have family ties that reach down the valley to Medellín and beyond. A map of the town where the river starts is a quiet way to mark where they come from, and it still makes sense to anyone who knows the wider Aburrá region.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a family name and a year. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The files come in six print sizes for $9, or you can order a matte print shipped locally.
