Lake Calima
The reservoir's long, branching shape comes from the valleys it flooded. It is the largest feature on the map and dominates the composition.

La mappa
Darien Map Poster & Print
Darién, officially Calima El Darién, is a town in the Valle del Cauca department of Colombia, in the Western Cordillera. It sits close to Lake Calima, a large reservoir created by a dam on the Calima River. Because of steady winds on the lake, it has become a popular destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing, and people come from Cali and across the region for water sports and weekend breaks.
The area is also linked to the Calima culture, a pre-Columbian civilisation known for its gold work and pottery. The town's archaeological museum displays finds from the region. The town itself has a regular grid of streets on a hillside, with the lake's long arms reaching into the surrounding valleys.
A Darien map poster is shaped by the water. The reservoir fills the drowned valleys with long, finger-like inlets, the roads follow its shores and the hills, and the town's compact grid stands out above it. The contrast between the irregular shoreline and the regular streets makes for a strong composition.

Hillside grid
The town's streets form a compact, regular grid on sloping ground above the lake. It is easy to distinguish from the natural shapes around it.
Shore roads
Roads trace the curves of the lakeshore and climb into the hills. They connect the town with the water-sports areas and the countryside beyond.

Perché Darien
Una mappa che ha un significato
Lake Calima is a place of weekend trips, first windsurfing lessons and family holidays. A map of Darién keeps those memories in one frame, with the lake and the town together.
Add a title, subtitle and coordinates of your choice, for example the year of a memorable trip or the name of your house on the lake. Choose from Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint shows the water beautifully.
