Open veld
Large areas of the map stay empty, marking the grassland and farmland between groups of homes. This negative space defines the character of the print.

La mappa
Driefontein Map Poster & Print
Driefontein is a settlement in southern Mpumalanga, South Africa, on the high grassland plateau that stretches toward the KwaZulu-Natal border. Its Afrikaans name means three springs, and the pattern is common across the region. Instead of a single dense centre, the settlement spreads widely, and homesteads and small clusters of buildings are linked by a network of roads and tracks.
On the map this produces an unusual texture. Lines run outward and cross one another at loose angles, and small plots appear between long empty stretches. Nothing is packed tightly. The drawing is closer to a web than a grid, and much of the paper stays white, standing in for open veld, grazing land and the gentle rise and fall of the plateau.
A Driefontein map poster turns that dispersed layout into a quiet, airy composition. It records a way of settling the land that differs from compact towns and planned suburbs, and that difference is what makes it visually distinct. The balance of fine lines and open space suits minimalist interiors where a busy city map would feel crowded.

Web of tracks
Instead of a grid, the roads form an irregular network that branches, meets and branches again, linking homesteads spread across a wide area.
Highveld setting
The settlement lies on the high interior plateau of southern Mpumalanga, where gently rolling ground lets roads run long and fairly straight between clusters.
