Erdek lies on the western side of the Kapıdağ peninsula, which reaches into the Sea of Marmara from the southern shore. On the map, the town wraps around a shallow bay, with a waterfront road tracing the beach and streets climbing inland toward wooded hills. Small islands and the larger Marmara group lie offshore to the north-west.
The town has long been a summer destination, and its beaches draw visitors from across the region each year. Nearby, on the narrow isthmus connecting the peninsula to the mainland, lie the remains of ancient Cyzicus, once an important Greek city. Ferries connect Erdek with the Marmara islands, including Avşa and Marmara Island.
