La mappa
Erzincan Map Poster & Print
Erzincan sits on a broad, flat plain in eastern Turkey, enclosed by high mountains to the north and south. The upper course of the Euphrates, known locally as the Karasu, crosses the plain to the south of the city. From above, the urban area forms a tidy block of streets on level ground, surrounded by fields and orchards that stretch towards the foot of the slopes.
The city's regular layout has a clear origin. In December 1939 a devastating earthquake destroyed the old town, and Erzincan was rebuilt a short distance to the north on a planned grid of straight streets and wide avenues. Seen on a map, this orderly pattern is unusual for a city of such long history, and it contrasts sharply with the rugged terrain surrounding the plain.
Erzincan lies along the North Anatolian Fault, and the region's story has been shaped by that geology. The city is also known for its tulum cheese, and the wider province includes the canyon country around Kemaliye. An Erzincan map poster shows a place of clean lines on a wide plain, held within mountains that rise on every side.

Erzincan plain
The flat, fertile plain around the city is patterned with fields and orchards, a calm open field that sets off the compact urban grid at its centre.
Euphrates course
The upper Euphrates flows across the plain south of the city, a meandering line that brings the only large water feature into this inland landscape.

Perché Erzincan
Una mappa che ha un significato
People who grew up in Erzincan, served there or have family from the plain often think of it as a place of mountains and wide horizons. A map of its grid holds that memory with clarity and restraint.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with any text or date you choose. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand; Blueprint suits the city's planned streets especially well, while Noir gives the grid a dramatic weight.
