Farrokh Shahr sits on a high plateau in the Zagros Mountains of west-central Iran, right beside Shahrekord, the capital of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province. On a map the two places read almost as one urban area, joined by roads across a short stretch of open land. The town is compact.
