La mappa

Fukura Map Poster & Print

Fukura lies in Minamiawaji, at the southern end of Awaji Island in Hyōgo Prefecture. The town wraps around a sheltered bay, with a harbour at its heart and streets spreading back from the waterfront toward the hills. On the map, the coastline dominates: a curving edge of piers and breakwaters that opens toward the Naruto Strait.

Fukura is the departure point for boat trips to the Naruto whirlpools, which form in the strait between Awaji and Shikoku as the tides shift. The town is also home to the Awaji Ningyo Joruri theatre, which keeps alive the island's centuries-old tradition of puppet drama.

A Fukura map poster captures a maritime town in compact form. The harbour, the streets behind it and the roads leading inland make a tight composition, while a wider frame reveals the southern coast of Awaji and the strait beyond, where the Ōnaruto Bridge crosses to Shikoku.

Fukura harbour

The port sits at the centre of the town, its piers and breakwaters forming crisp geometric shapes against the water of the bay.

02

Naruto Strait

A wider view includes the narrow channel between Awaji and Shikoku, where the whirlpools form, rendered on the poster as a calm expanse of open water.

03

Ōnaruto Bridge

The long suspension bridge linking Awaji Island to Naruto on Shikoku appears as a single fine line spanning the strait, a striking detail at larger scales.
