La mappa

Fuyun Map Poster & Print

Fuyun is a county town in the Altay Prefecture of northern Xinjiang, close to the border with Mongolia. It lies in the valley of the upper Irtysh, known locally as the Ertix. This is one of the few major rivers in China that flows towards the Arctic Ocean. On a map, the town is a compact grid set in very open country.

The area is best known for Koktokay, or Keketuohai, a mountain district north of town. It is famous for its rare minerals and for the vast open-pit mine known as Pit No. 3. Today the surrounding granite valleys are protected as a geopark, with river gorges and rock domes.

A Fuyun map poster is mostly space, which is part of its appeal. The town's regular streets sit against the curves of the river and a scattering of roads that reach into the mountains. The Sand and Paper styles bring out the steppe setting, while Noir makes the river and grid stand out.

Irtysh valley

The upper Irtysh passes close to town on its long journey north-west towards Kazakhstan and Siberia. It adds a strong natural curve to the map.

02

Town grid

A regular, planned street grid makes up the centre. It is a neat, geometric block against the open, unstructured landscape around it.

03

Koktokay district

North of the town, roads lead into the granite mountains of Koktokay, known for its minerals, its great open-pit mine and its geopark scenery.

Perché Fuyun

Una mappa che ha un significato

Fuyun is remote, and people who have lived or worked there often keep a strong attachment to it. A map preserves the town's shape and its place in the Altay landscape in a quiet, graphic form.

The title and subtitle can be set in Chinese, Kazakh or English, and the coordinates line can be kept or changed. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
