La mappa

Ghātsīla Map Poster & Print

Ghātsīla lies in East Singhbhum district, in the south-east of Jharkhand, on the banks of the Subarnarekha River. On a map the river is the main feature: a wide, braided channel with sandbanks, curving past the town. The streets are gathered on its banks, and the railway line toward Tatanagar and Kharagpur runs close by.

Wooded hills rise around the valley, and the settlement pattern is loose. There is a small market core, clusters of housing and industrial colonies linked to copper mining and smelting in the surrounding belt. Beyond them, fields and forest take over. A Ghātsīla map poster presents that combination of river, hills and scattered settlement in a calm, balanced frame.

The town has a literary connection too. The Bengali writer Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, author of Pather Panchali, spent his last years in Ghātsīla, and his house there is remembered by readers. With the river, the hills and that association, the town has long attracted visitors from Bengal looking for a quiet change of air.

01

The Subarnarekha

The river forms a wide channel beside town, with sandbars and curves that give the map a strong, flowing feature.

02

Forested hills

Wooded high ground surrounds the valley. It limits the built area and creates open space around the edges of the composition.

03

Copper-belt colonies

Planned housing for mining and industry appears as regular blocks among the more irregular streets of the old market town.

Perché Ghātsīla

Una mappa che ha un significato

For readers of Bibhutibhushan, families who worked in the copper industry and people who holidayed on the Subarnarekha, Ghātsīla holds real meaning. The map keeps its river and hills in view in a quiet, literary style.

Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a book title or a year. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper suits the writerly mood.
