Railway line
The railway runs through the area as a long, confident stroke, the feature the town grew up alongside and still the most defining line on its map.

La mappa
Hennenman Map Poster & Print
Hennenman lies in the Free State goldfields area, a short distance from Welkom and Virginia, on the level grasslands and maize country of the Highveld. Seen from above, the town is a clear, orderly arrangement of rectangular blocks, laid out in the straightforward manner of many South African country towns that grew around a railway.
The railway is still one of the strongest lines on the map, running past the town and shaping the way its streets are oriented. Around the built-up area, the land is almost entirely flat, so field boundaries and farm roads form long straight lines that stretch to the edges of the frame, with residential areas set a little apart from the older centre.
A Hennenman map poster captures that spare geometry: a modest grid, a railway cutting through open country, and the broad emptiness of the plains around it. In black and white, the town reads almost like a diagram, which suits a place defined by distance, farming and the routes that connect it to the wider goldfields.

Orderly town blocks
The older centre is made of regular rectangular blocks with straight streets, a compact grid that stands out sharply against the unbuilt land around it.
Highveld farmland
Flat grassland and crop fields surround the town, their straight tracks and boundaries giving the edges of the poster a calm, spacious rhythm.
