Rail spine
The commuter line cuts a straight path through the suburb. The centre sits next to the station, and the rest of the layout is organised around it.

La mappa
Jakobsberg Map Poster & Print
Jakobsberg is the main centre of Järfälla Municipality, northwest of Stockholm. It is a suburb shaped by rail. The commuter line runs through the middle, and the town centre, with its shopping and civic buildings, stands beside the station. Much of the surrounding housing dates from the large planned expansion of Swedish suburbs in the post-war decades.
On a map the pattern is typical of Swedish suburban planning. Apartment blocks are set in green courts, local roads curve and end in loops, and footpaths are kept separate from car traffic. Patches of forest and open ground push in between neighbourhoods. The inlets of Lake Mälaren lie a little further west.
A Jakobsberg map poster doesn't show a grid. It shows a careful arrangement of loops, cul-de-sacs and green gaps around a straight rail line. The contrast between the rigid track and the soft residential curves gives the drawing a clear logic. It also looks good in the lighter styles.

Looping residential roads
Neighbourhood streets curve and loop instead of crossing at right angles, following a planning style that kept cars out of housing areas.
Green interruptions
Forest and open land run between districts. On the map these appear as wide blank areas that divide the suburb into distinct pieces.
