Machado River
The river flows through the heart of the city in a broad natural curve. It divides the map and contrasts with the rectangular street grid on either bank.

La mappa
Ji Paraná Map Poster & Print
Ji Paraná is the second-largest city in Rondônia, in the western Brazilian Amazon. It grew quickly from the 1970s as settlers arrived along the BR-364 highway. The city takes its name from the river that runs through it, also known as the Machado, and the water divides the city into two distinct halves, one on each bank.
On the map, the river is the dominant feature: a wide band curving through the middle of the poster, with a regular grid of streets on each side. The highway crosses the river on a bridge that ties the two sides together. Beyond the edges, straight roads run out into cleared farmland and what remains of the forest.
A Ji Paraná map poster reflects a frontier city laid out quickly on open land, where long straight blocks meet the curves of the river. It is a centre for farming and cattle ranching in central Rondônia. For many families, it marks the place where they settled after travelling from other parts of Brazil.

Two-sided grid
Each bank has its own regular pattern of streets, laid out as the city grew quickly, so the poster reads as two related halves facing each other.
BR-364 bridge
The federal highway crosses the river on a long bridge. It is the main link between the two halves and a clear line across the centre of the map.

Perché Ji Paraná
Una mappa che ha un significato
Ji Paraná was built by newcomers, people who came from the south and north-east of Brazil to settle the frontier. A map of it captures a family story: where they arrived, which side of the river they lived on, what they built.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a family name or an arrival year, keep the coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Digital HD files cost $9, and printed posters ship from partners in 30+ countries.
