Ridge and valley
The area is made up of long parallel ridges divided by river valleys, a pattern that gives the map a strong rhythm of roads along the high ground.

La mappa
Karuri Map Poster & Print
This Karuri lies in Murang'a County in central Kenya, on the eastern side of the Aberdare highlands. The land here falls away in a series of long ridges separated by steep river valleys, many of them draining toward the Tana, Kenya's longest river. Settlements, farms and roads are spread along these ridges rather than gathered in a dense town centre.
Murang'a is a farming county, known for tea on the higher ground and coffee, bananas and other crops further down the slopes. Small market centres serve the surrounding homesteads, and the pattern of land use closely follows the shape of the hills, with cultivation on the ridge tops and slopes and woodland along the streams.
A Karuri map poster from Murang'a is a portrait of rural highland Kenya. Roads and footpaths trace the ridges in long, branching lines, rivers cut between them, and the open spaces suggest farmland rather than city blocks. In black and white, the result is a quiet, detailed design shaped by the terrain.

Rivers toward the Tana
Streams flowing down from the Aberdares cut between the ridges toward the Tana basin, drawing fine winding lines across the map from west to east.
Farm roads
Small roads and paths branch off the ridgeline routes to reach farms and homesteads, creating a delicate, tree-like network across the landscape.
