Curved suburbs
The town's residential streets form loops and crescents. They give the map soft, rounded shapes typical of planned South African mining and energy towns.

La mappa
Kriel Map Poster & Print
Kriel is a town in Mpumalanga, South Africa, on the coal-rich Highveld. It grew up alongside nearby coal mines and large coal-fired power stations, including Kriel and Matla. From above, the town is a planned cluster of curving residential streets, with industrial sites and mining areas at a distance.
The surrounding landscape is flat grassland and farmland, crossed by straight roads, rail lines and conveyor routes. On the map, the power stations and mines appear as large, geometric areas. They contrast with the rounded shapes of the town's housing areas and the small pans and dams in the landscape.
A Kriel map poster is for people who have lived or worked here, often in mining or power generation. It shows a place built for a specific purpose. The clear layout of the town and the scale of the industry around it make a map that is simple and full of meaning.

Power station sites
Large coal-fired power stations stand nearby. Their sites appear as big, regular blocks that stand apart from the town on the map.
Open Highveld
Flat grassland surrounds the town, crossed by straight roads, rail lines and small water bodies. This leaves plenty of open space around the town.
