Kūdlu lies in Kasaragod district at the northern tip of Kerala, close to the town of Kasaragod and a short distance from the Arabian Sea. Like much of coastal Kerala, it does not form a sharply bounded town but a continuous spread of houses, lanes and gardens, with coconut palms and trees filling much of the ground between buildings.
On a map, this gives Kūdlu a soft, dispersed texture. Narrow lanes branch off the main roads and wind between homesteads, while the nearby coast and rivers draw the strongest natural lines in the area. The main coastal highway passes close by, a firm spine linking the area with Kasaragod and with Mangaluru to the north.
