Libres lies in eastern Puebla, on the high basin between the central plateau and the mountains that drop toward Veracruz. On the map, the town is a clear grid of blocks around a central square, typical of Mexican towns, with long straight roads running out across flat farmland.
The surrounding land is high, open and mostly cultivated, with a thinner scatter of settlements than the valleys further west. Volcanic peaks rise on the horizon in several directions, though the land near town is largely level. That makes the street grid look sharp and orderly on paper.
