The Gulf edge
The coastline runs almost perfectly straight along the Mississippi Sound, giving the whole map a strong horizon line with open water filling the lower part of the frame.

La mappa
Long Beach Map Poster & Print
Long Beach sits on the Mississippi Gulf Coast between Gulfport and Pass Christian, facing the shallow waters of the Mississippi Sound. From above, the town is defined by one strong horizontal line: the coast road running along the sand, with the beach and harbor on one side and neighborhoods on the other. Streets run north from that edge in a loose, regular pattern that thins out as it reaches wooded land.
The shoreline has shaped the town's story as much as its map. Hurricane Katrina struck this coast in 2005 and destroyed much of the waterfront, and the rebuilding that followed changed the look of the blocks nearest the Sound. Earlier in the twentieth century the area was known for truck farming, especially radishes shipped north by rail, which explains the railway line that runs parallel to the coast.
A Long Beach map poster turns these parallel bands into a clean composition: open water, a thin ribbon of beach, the coast highway, the rail line, and then the calmer texture of streets. The small harbor breaks the straight edge with a neat geometric notch, and the Gulf Park campus of the University of Southern Mississippi adds a patch of open ground near the shore.

Parallel corridors
The beachfront highway and the railway run side by side with the shore, layering the town into bands that read clearly in black and white.
Harbor notch
A small harbor cuts into the beach, one of the few places where the straight line of the coast is interrupted by piers and basins.

Perché Long Beach
Una mappa che ha un significato
For people who grew up on the Coast, spent summers on this beach or helped rebuild after the storm, the map holds a lot of memory. The simple shoreline and the grid behind it look calm on a wall and are easy to recognise.
You can add your own title, a subtitle such as a street or a year, and the coordinates line, then choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Buy it as a $9 set of digital HD files or as a printed poster.
