The bent outline
Two long arms meet at an angle and give the island its boomerang shape. The bays between them cut deep into the land, so the silhouette is easy to recognise.

La mappa
Masbate Map Poster & Print
Masbate sits at the centre of the Philippine archipelago, between Luzon's Bicol peninsula and the Visayas. Seen from above it has a distinctive bent shape: a long body running northwest to southeast with a second arm angled away, so the coastline wraps around deep bays. Roads follow both arms, joining towns spaced along the shore, while the interior is a pattern of low hills and open pasture.
The island is known across the country for cattle ranching. Masbate City holds an annual rodeo festival that has earned the province the name of rodeo capital of the Philippines. Gold has also been mined in the north of the island for a long time. Two smaller islands, Ticao and Burias, complete the province.
On a Masbate map poster, the provincial capital forms the densest cluster of streets, on the northeast coast. From there, main roads run out along the island's arms toward smaller port towns. The long, uneven coastline, broken by coves and inlets, gives the outline a lot of character, and the surrounding seas frame it on every side.

Masbate City
The capital sits on a sheltered stretch of the northeast coast. It has the island's main port and its tightest street pattern, which stands out against the open interior.
Arm-to-arm roads
National roads run along the length of each arm and link the coastal towns. They form a spine that follows the shape of the island itself.
