La mappa
Mondlo Map Poster & Print
Mondlo lies in northern KwaZulu-Natal, near Vryheid, in a landscape of rolling grassland and low hills. From above, the township is made up of long rows of small plots and streets laid out in sections. Main roads connect them and lead towards the surrounding towns. The pattern is dense within the settlement and opens abruptly into grassland at its edges.
As in many South African townships, the plan reflects the way the settlement was designed and later extended. Newer sections were added beside older ones, sometimes with different street patterns. Schools, churches and sports grounds appear as open spaces within the rows of houses. Beyond, farm roads and streams cross the hills.
A Mondlo map poster turns this pattern into a clear, graphic image. The repeating rows of streets form a strong texture, while the curves of the main roads and the open land around them add movement. It is a personal map, suited to people who grew up here or still call it home.

Connecting roads
Main roads link the sections and lead out towards nearby towns. Their longer lines give the map its overall structure.
Grassland edges
Beyond the last streets, open hills and farm tracks surround the settlement. They form a quiet, spacious frame for the composition.
