La mappa
Monheim am Rhein Map Poster & Print
Monheim am Rhein lies on the right bank of the Rhine, roughly halfway between Düsseldorf and Cologne. The river defines the town's western edge in a wide, sweeping bend, and on a map the water and its floodplain meadows take up a large part of the frame. The built-up area sits back from the bank, protected by dykes and open green land.
The small historic core of the old town gathers around the Schelmenturm, a medieval gate tower that has become the town's emblem. Beyond it, Monheim and neighbouring Baumberg spread in postwar residential districts with regular streets, schools and parks, while main roads run east toward Langenfeld and the motorways that link the town to the wider Rhineland.
The town has become known in Germany for its low business tax and for making its local buses free to ride. A Monheim am Rhein map poster shows the balance that defines the place: a compact town on one side, the Rhine and its broad meadows on the other, and the long curve of the river holding the two together.

Schelmenturm old town
The small historic core around the medieval gate tower appears as a tight cluster of short, irregular streets amid more regular later districts.
Floodplain meadows
Open floodplain meadows lie between the dykes and the water, a generous blank band along the river that gives the composition breathing room.
