The Nhamundá River
The river runs past the town and is its main route to the outside world. It takes up much of the frame and gives the poster its dominant shape.

La mappa
Nhamundá Map Poster & Print
Nhamundá stands on the Nhamundá River in the far east of Amazonas state, close to the border with Pará and to the main course of the Amazon. On a map, water dominates everything. The town is a small grid of streets on the riverbank, and around it lie wide lakes, side channels and seasonally flooded land.
The river carries a well-known story. Tradition places Francisco de Orellana's 1542 encounter with a group of warrior women near the Nhamundá. That account gave the Amazon River its name, and local lore connects the area with the Icamiabas, the legendary women warriors. The town of Parintins, known for its festival, lies not far downstream.
A Nhamundá map poster is mostly about water: the dark ribbon of the river, lakes with irregular shorelines and a maze of channels. The street grid sits on the bank as a small, neat patch against all that open water.

Floodplain lakes
Lakes and connected channels spread across the low land nearby. Their irregular shorelines make detailed, almost lace-like shapes on the print.
Riverbank grid
The town's regular blocks sit on firm ground by the water. Their neat, geometric lines stand out against the organic curves of the surrounding waterways.
