Vechte river arms
The Vechte divides into branches around the town centre, surrounding the old town with water. This gives the core an island shape that is easy to spot on the map.

La mappa
Nordhorn Map Poster & Print
Nordhorn is the district seat of Grafschaft Bentheim in Lower Saxony, just a few kilometres from the Dutch border. Its centre stands on land enclosed by branches of the Vechte river. On a map, the old town appears as an island, and water winds around and through the streets. Several canals meet here too, which is why Nordhorn likes to describe itself as a town of water.
For much of the twentieth century Nordhorn was a major textile town, home to large mills whose sites have since been redeveloped. North of the centre lies the Vechtesee, a lake that is now a popular green space. The Nordhorn zoo is well known across the region. Residential districts spread outward on flat ground, their streets curving in the style of post-war suburbs.
A Nordhorn map poster brings the water structure into focus: the forked Vechte around the centre, the straight lines of the canals leading away, and the smooth outline of the lake. Against these, the road network of the town reads clearly. The result is a map that is at once structured and gentle, much like the flat landscape of the German–Dutch borderland.

Canal network
Several canals meet in Nordhorn and run off in long straight lines toward the countryside and the Netherlands. They add strong geometric strokes to the composition.
Vechtesee lake
North of the centre, the Vechtesee forms a broad smooth shape amid the streets. It gives the map a calm open area and a clear visual counterpoint.

Perché Nordhorn
Una mappa che ha un significato
For people from Grafschaft Bentheim, or those who grew up with Nordhorn's rivers and canals, this map is instantly familiar. Water lines running through a regular town plan make a particularly clean and readable print that suits a hallway, study or living room.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name, a street or a date. Then choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint brings out the canals especially well.
