Ogi lies on the northern edge of the Saga plain in Kyushu, where flat rice fields meet wooded hills. The town's streets spread across the low ground, while the slopes to the north rise quickly, giving the map a clear division between the settled plain and the forested high ground behind it.
In the Edo period Ogi was the seat of a branch domain of the Nabeshima clan, and the castle-town layout left its trace in the centre. Today the town is best known for Ogi Park, famous for its cherry blossoms and azaleas, and for Ogi yokan, a sweet bean confection that has become a regional specialty.
